Some energy grants also apply to second homes. Unlike MaPrimeRenov’, which is exclusively for primary residences and is supported by the French government, your energy suppliers can finance part of the work to insulate your home or install a more sustainable, less polluting heating system.
Your energy supplier, whoever he may be, can offer you financial assistance to subsidize some or all of your energy-saving work. This is known as the “certificat d’économie d’énergie” (CEE).
The amount of assistance granted varies according to your income and the energy savings achieved through the work carried out.
Which energy suppliers are affected?
All suppliers of electricity, gas or LPG, heating oil, heating and cooling can offer financial assistance for energy-saving work.1
Under what conditions are you eligible?
To be eligible, your income must correspond to the criteria defined by the various assistance programs. These benefits apply to both primary and secondary residences, whether owned or rented. However, it is essential that the property in question was built more than two years ago.
What types of work are eligible?
Eligible work falls into the category of so-called “standard work”, encompassing various installations such as insulation or heating equipment. These interventions are defined in specific documents called“standard operation sheets “. It is important to consult this list to identify eligible work.
To qualify for assistance, you need to follow a series of steps:
- Start by choosing an energy supplier. It’s a good idea to compare the offers available on the websites of several suppliers;
- Once you have found an offer that meets your needs, accept it before signing the work estimate;
- Next, select an RGE (Reconnu Garant de l’Environnement) certified professional to carry out the work. You can consult a dedicated directory;
- Once you have signed the estimate with the RGE professional, let him carry out the work;
- Finally, collect supporting documents, such as invoices and an affidavit signed by you, summarizing the work, and send them to the energy supplier to obtain the financial assistance.
Coup de pouce bonuses still in force
Introduced to encourage households to carry out energy-efficiency work, particularly on their second homes, certain “Coup de pouce” grants are still available. These include the “Coup de pouce” for heating, the “Coup de pouce” for efficient renovation of a single-family home, and the “Coup de pouce” for connected room-by-room heating control.
Heating boost
This financial assistance is aimed at replacing a coal, oil, gas or condensing boiler with a more efficient, environmentally-friendly system.
The amount of the grant depends on the household’s income and the type of work undertaken, up to €5,000 depending on the heating system chosen. The income taken into account is the reference tax income for the year N-2, i.e. 2022 for applications made in 2024. This bonus applies to work started up to December 31, 2025 and completed by December 31, 2026. Find out more about the bonus amounts here.
To be eligible for the bonus, you must replace your heating system with one of these solutions:
- A boiler using organic fuels such as biomass or wood heating;
- An air-to-water, water-to-water or hybrid heat pump;
- Installing a solar combisystem;
- Connection to a heating network powered by renewable energy sources.
Helping hand for high-performance renovation of a single-family home
The conditions of this bonus stipulate that the work must include at least one of the following three insulation actions:
- Thermal insulation of roofs, covering at least 75% of the total surface area, with insulating material on the flat roof or roof slope;
- Thermal insulation of lost attic floors and low floors, covering at least 75% of the total surface area, located between a heated space and an unheated basement, crawl space or open space;
- Thermal insulation of walls, covering at least 75% of the total surface area of exterior walls, using an interior or exterior insulation method.
This work must reduce conventional annual primary energy consumption for heating, cooling and domestic hot water production by at least 55%. What’s more, when replacing heating or domestic hot water production equipment, it’s crucial to avoid installing equipment that runs mainly on coal, fuel oil or gas, as well as any increase in greenhouse gas emissions.
As with the “Coup de pouce” heating bonus, work started up to 12/31/25 and completed by 12/31/26 is potentially eligible.
Coup de pouce “connected room-by-room heating control
This bonus supports the installation of programmable thermostats on heating systems, reducing energy consumption and lowering energy bills.
Unlike the two Coup de Pouce incentives mentioned above, the Coup de Pouce ‘Room-by-room connected heating control’ applies to work started between December 1, 2023 and December 31, 2024.
The amount of the bonus depends on the heated surface area of the dwelling, ranging from around €260 for a surface area of less than 35 m² to over €600 for a surface area of more than 120 m².
This bonus applies only to homes with an individual heating system, not a collective one. It is also important to note that it cannot be combined with other Coup de pouce grants.
